STEP 1: Once you've chosen your two posters, take notes on the following questions. This will help make writing the paragraphs easier. These are also questions one should always ask when reading/studying a primary source.

1) Audience - Who is the target audience of this poster?
2) Author/Source - Who is the author/source of this document? What impact may this information have on your understanding of the poster?
3) Purpose - What is the message of the poster - both literally and figuratively?
4) Method - Does the author/source of this poster get his message across effectively?

Once you've answered the four questions above, think about the following question:

5) How does the information you've listed above impact your understanding of the poster and its message?

STEP 2: Now you are ready to write your 2 paragraphs on each poster and follow Mr. Lewis' writing instructions.

You can reference any section of Americans in the Great War (Chapter 23). You will probably find section "Mobilizing the Home Front" (pg. 661 - 665) and "Civil Liberties Under Challenge" (pg. 665 - 666) the most helpful.
